World Newspaper Archive announces additional Latin American content and member pricing proposal.
February 26, 2009Latin American Newspapers, the initial collection in the World Newspaper Archive (WNA) now contains four titles for searching and browsing. In addition to the first-released Mercurio from Chile, we now have available an extensive run of O Estado de Sao Paulo (1876-1914).
CRL Global Resources Expand to Australia.
February 1, 2009Effective January 1, 2009, Monash University is the newest contributing member of the Global Resources Network. Monash joins CRL member institutions and supporters of the Network in the collaborative effort to expand and enhance access to international scholarly resources.
Planning for 3 new WNA collections begins.
January 22, 2009The World Newspaper Archive advisory committee recommends Africa, South Asia, and Eastern Europe for future conversion.
ProQuest will introduce a new collection in the ProQuest American Periodicals Series Online, "American Periodicals from the Center for Research Libraries", which will contain full text and full-color scans of nearly three million pages of CRL journal content focusing on special interest and general magazines from the 19th through the early 20th century.
Index to German-Language Newspaper Access in North America
January 2, 2009The GNARP/WESS index to German-Language Newspapers in North America is now available at http://wess.lib.byu.edu/index.php/German-Language_Newspaper_Access_in_North_America. Institutions are encouraged to add titles and holdings relevant to German newspapers in their permanent possession.
CAMP acquires Namibian newspaper Allgemeine Zeitung
December 22, 2008The Cooperative Africana Microform Project (CAMP) has acquired an extensive run on microfilm of Allgemeine Zeitung (Windhoek, Namibia) from 1949 to 2007. The Allgemeine Zeitung is the oldest newspaper in Namibia, founded in 1915.

Preliminary release of World Newspaper Archive
December 16, 2008The preliminary release of the first World Newspaper Archive collection is now available for member review and comment. The release includes some 60,000 pages of El Mercurio, 1914-22.

November 5, 2008The Middle East Microform Project (MEMP) has acquired Tangier Gazette (variant titles include Al-Moghreb al-Aksa, Tangier Chronicle, and Morocco Gazette) for the dates 1897–1940, 1949–50.
MEMP acquires al-Quds al-Arabi
November 5, 2008The Middle East Microform Project (MEMP) has received microfilm reels of al-Quds al-Arabi (London) from the period 1989–93 and 1998–2007.
SAMP acquires Ceylon Times, 1863–1907
October 1, 2008The South Asia Microform Project (SAMP) has acquired microfilm of the Ceylon Times for the period 1863–1907. The Ceylon Times was founded in 1846, becoming Times of Ceylon in 1883 as an evening daily. It was widely read by British officials and merchants as well as Ceylon’s elite.For more details, see the CRL catalog record for this title.
LAMP becomes LAMP
September 15, 2008The Latin American Microform Project voted to change its name simply to LAMP, in reflection of its evolving use of digital technologies to serve its original purpose.
FOCUS on Global Resources Newsletter, Summer 2008 Issue ("CRL's Foreign Dissertation Collection") is now online.

In June, 2008, CRL surpassed one million pages already digitized for scholars at member libraries. The milestone figure represents the digital conversion of more than 7,500 items to date, all discoverable through the CRL catalog as well as OCLC’s Worldcat.

SAMP acquires Rahbar-i Dakan
May 14, 2008The South Asia Microform Project (SAMP) announces the availability of Rahbar-i Dakan, one of the most influential Urdu papers published in India, for the period 1925–46. SAMP preserved the rare and fragile paper from the collection of the Urdu Documentation Centre in Hyderabad. For more details, see the CRL catalog record for this title.
CRL and 18 members team up to acquire major microfilm sets through the 2008 Shared Purchase Program.
May 6, 2008With the support of 18 member institutions, CRL is acquiring five major microfilm sets through its 2008 Shared Purchase Program. (See below for the names of the 18 members.) The total list cost of these acquisitions, which will benefit all CRL members, is $44,058.
