The Center for Research Libraries and Johns Hopkins Libraries are pleased to announce that Johns Hopkins University recently became a full-voting member of the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), a partnership of more than 200 university, college, and independent research libraries.

For over 70 years, CRL has acquired and preserved a world-class collection of materials to support inspired research, teaching, and knowledge creation. CRL’s collections of newspapers, journals, primary source documents, and other print and digital materials are made available to faculty, students, and staff at member organizations through interlibrary loan and digital delivery.

“We are thrilled to join the Center for Research Libraries,” said Winston Tabb, Sheridan Dean of University Libraries, Archives, and Museums at Johns Hopkins. “CRL’s deep and diverse collections will provide multiple avenues for research and inquiry for Hopkins faculty and students. The consortium’s global posture and commitment to collaboration across research libraries align with our university’s values and mission.”

For the Johns Hopkins community, CRL membership functions as an auxiliary of rare and unique resources, with project-length loan privileges, three-day delivery of analog interlibrary loan, expansive use of digital-on-demand distribution of most material, and patron driven purchasing programs in the areas of international dissertations, newspapers, and select primary source collections.

CRL’s collections are emphatically international in scope. CRL currently holds the largest collection of circulating newspapers in North America, more than 38,000 international journals rarely held in North America, more than 80,000 international dissertations, mostly from European institutions, and major microform and paper collections from all world regions, including Africa, Latin America, Middle East, Europe, and Asia. In addition, CRL is the administrative home of NERL, the primary consortia through which Johns Hopkins acquires access to journal content across all fields, including STEM and medicine and health sciences.
