This quarterly webinar will report on the current status of major CRL initiatives and programs. Presentations will focus on three areas:

2:00-2:30 p.m. CST  Shared Print: JSTOR Print Archives in North America

CRL’s JSTOR Print Archive collection was initiated in 2001 as a print backup for JSTOR’s Arts & Sciences Collections for CRL members. During this session, CRL will examine the progress and challenges in archiving the ever-expanding JSTOR collection by "designated" JSTOR print collections (including those at Harvard and the University of California) as well as through shared print initiatives. CRL will suggest measures the community might take to strengthen these efforts through concentrated action.

2:30-3:00 p.m. CST  Digitization: Mexican Intelligence Digital Archives (MIDAS) & CRL's Efforts in Expanding Access to Latin American Resources

In September 2018, CRL announced a major initiative to reclaim scholarly access to historical documentation from Mexico's former intelligence agencies. The MIDAS project, which will eventually contain more than 300,000 documents from the Dirección Federal de Seguridad (DFS) and other agencies, represents one of the most recent efforts by CRL and the Global Collections Initiative to expand the availability of critical source documentation to support research on other world regions. Guest speaker Professor Paul Gillingham (Associate Professor of History, Northwestern University) will describe the archives' importance.

3:00-3:30 p.m. CST  Licensing: Outcomes of eDesiderata Forum 2018 "Investing in Open Primary Sources"

Over 120 participants from the CRL community gathered (virtually) in October 2018 to examine the state of collaborative efforts to establish open access to news, archives, government information, and other primary data. Expert presenters described current and emerging models of Open Access initiatives and suggested potential strategies for how those efforts could best be structured to benefit the academy and digital scholarship. CRL staff will recap the highlights of the event and suggest what directions CRL and its community might take in response to those suggestions. 

Registrants are encouraged to tune in to any or all of these three segments.
