CRL encourages print archiving efforts by domain because it ensure that those most familiar with the content will identify and describe it appropriately.
In 2003, CRL organized one of the first major initiatives to focus attention on the evolving nature of library print collections: the Preserving America's Print Resources (PAPR) conference, funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), which framed a national action plan for cooperative management of physical collections.
In subsequent years, CRL developed print retention agreements with partner libraries and a JSTOR print archive housed at CRL. In 2009, CRL was awarded funding by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to establish a new program to support strategic development and management of library collections at the local and regional level. The PAPR database was created and built as part of this project. In 2010, CRL was awarded an IMLS National Leadership Grant to “develop collaborative print archives by domain” in the areas of agriculture and law. This grant enabled us to partner with the Law Library Microform Consortium (LLMC), and create Project Ceres .
