This set has seven parts:
This is a microcard set of literary, historical and cultural books of the 19th century. This is a continuing series; however, the Center cancelled its subscription to it, after receiving about 800 titles, because the project heavily duplicated materials in other collections. All of the titles received have been analyzed, and records appear in the Center's catalog.
GUIDE: American culture, 1493-1875 : an index to the Bibliography of American culture, 1493-1875, and the microfilm collection. B-24935 The set includes approximately 5,600 works published before 1876, and important for an understanding of American culture. Most of the titles are in English and were written and published in the United States. Selected and compiled in the mid-1950s by the Committee on Microfilm Bibliography of the American Studies Association (edited by David R. Weimer), the series includes information on American education, religion, pacifism, feminism, the city, the history of science, and many other subjects of importance to American historiography. The set includes two series: Series I, 1493-1806; and Series II, which expanded the pre-1806 holdings and extended the collection to 1875. The Center has purchased analytics for all titles in Series I and II; these records appear in CRLCATALOG.
American plays published from 1831 to 1900 are included. The basic reference authorities for the titles include the following: Quin, Arthur. American drama from the beginning to the Civil War. GUIDE: Thompson, Ralph. American literary annuals and gift books, 1825-1865. Z6520.G4T5 This set includes 469 souvenir volumes. The titles are important for the book design and decoration techniques employed by publishers and for their sentimental content representing a prevailing national perception of antebellum and Civil War era America. In addition, the gift books included the works of then-unknown and often lastingly obscure authors as well as minor works by Hawthorne, Poe, Stowe and Emerson. All the titles in this set have been analyzed, and records appear in the Center's catalog.
GUIDE: American periodicals 1741-1900; an index to the microfilm collections. Z1033.M6H789 This is a microfilm set of periodicals published in the United States from 1741 through the early part of the 20th century. It is comprised of three series: Series I, 1741-1800; Series II, 1801-1850; and, Series III, 1850-1900: Civil War and Reconstruction. The series document the origins of American magazine journalism and the boom in periodical publishing that took place between 1825 and 1850. The Center has purchased analytics for all titles in Series I, II, and III; these records appear in CRLCATALOG. UMI (Proquest) is developing a fee-based full-text index to the collections - CRL does not have access to this database.
GUIDE: Dime novels : escape fiction of the nineteenth century : guide to the microfilm collection. D-14742 This is a microfilm set of over 3,000 novels published by Beadle and Adams. The Center has purchased analytics for all titles in Units 1-7; these records appear in CRLCATALOG.
GUIDE: Evans, Charles. American bibliography. National index of American imprints through 1800. Z1215.E923A5 The Center owns only the monographs in the set. It includes approximately 42,000 books, pamphlets and broadsides published in the United States from 1639 through 1800. The titles in the set have not been analyzed by the Center, but can be verified in the bibliographies upon which it is based.
Northwestern University transferred to the Center its collection (approximately 5,000 volumes in original format) of English and American fiction of the later 19th and early 20th centuries. These are lesser-known works by important authors or works by minor writers. The Center is cataloging these titles, and eventually records for all will be in the Center's catalog.
This is a continuing project consisting of two parts: English and American drama of the 19th century . It is the micropublisher's attempt to reproduce every play published during the 19th century. The reproductions are in microprint and fiche. The microprint titles are cataloged in CRLCATALOG with entries for over 3,500 American and 7,300 English plays. The final, complete collection of English and American plays should include 30,000-35,000 titles; 2,000-3,000 titles are produced each year. The expected completion date of the set is 1998. This set includes 117 titles published 1500-1900 and compiled by the Speech Association of America. The collection emphasizes the elocutionary aspects of rhetoric. It contains texts on preaching, grammar, oratory, pronunciation and the art of criticism in fields such as law and religion. About two-thirds of the titles are British and written in English or Latin. The remainder are continental, written in Latin, French or Italian. The individual titles are cataloged in CRLCATALOG.
This is a microcard set of 848 titles published in the 18th and 19th centuries. The works include histories, biographies, criticism, fiction, etc. All titles are cataloged separately in the Center's card catalog. This set continued beyond Series one; however, the Center cancelled its subscription after the completion of Series one because the project heavily duplicated materials in other collections.
GUIDE: British periodicals in the creative arts : an index to the microfilm collection. Access Services Department This set includes 71 periodicals and journals on music, art, drama, archaeology, architecture and dance. All the titles have been cataloged separately in the Center's catalog.
GUIDE: A Guide to the Early British periodicals collection on microfilm with title, subject, editor and reel number indexes. Z6956.G6U54 This set reproduces journals, magazines and other periodicals about politics, economics, philosophy, literature, and the social sciences in Great Britain from 1681-1921. All the titles have been cataloged separately in CRLCATALOG.
English plays published from 1801 to 1900 are included. GUIDE: University Microfilms International. Accessing English literary periodicals : a guide to the microfilm collection, with title, subject, editor and reel number indexes. E-8548 This set includes about 250 periodicals from 1660-1900. All the titles have been cataloged separately in the Center's catalog.

GUIDE: The Charles Dickens research collection : from The J.F. F-4741 This set consists of selected works from the collections at the British Library, the Dickens House Museum, the Bodleian Library, Harvard University Library, and other institutions.
The Hunter Collection consists of mass education material, directories and guidebooks published in Hong Kong and in Mainland China, particularly Shanghai, in the years 1947-1954 and collected by Edward Hunter.
The mass education material includes several hundred cartoon books, pamphlets, postcards, and magazines, heavily pictorial in content, on such topics as foreign threats to Chinese security, Chinese relations with the Soviet Union, industrial and agricultural production, and marriage reform. The items were produced by both Kuomintang (Chinese Nationalist) and Communist regimes, and appear to be directed at the general youth and adult populations of China.

GUIDE: Van Gulik collection : rare Chinese books on microfiche : catalogue. E-7515
The Center acquired only part 1 of this set. Part 1 includes 117 titles, including almost all the rare folk novels. Individual titles are also cataloged separately.
This microfilm set contains copies of Chinese folk literature which apparently are otherwise unpublished. The reel numbering is not consecutive. An index to the set appears on reel 614.

Z1033.M6B61 [This guide includes plays issued in the 1961-1968 groups.] This is a continuing project including plays published from the 16th to the early 20th centuries. Opera libretti and translations of plays written in languages other than German also are included. From 1961 through 1985, the set was produced in microcard format; from 1986 to date, it is in microfiche. The Center receives additional titles in this set periodically. At its completion, the set will include 12,000-15,000 titles. All titles will be included in the Center's catalog.

GUIDE: Reference Folder #147. This facsimile reprint set includes 151 texts of various writings published from 1788-1830, concerning Voltaire. The titles included are very rare and include both defamatory and laudatory items.
GUIDE: Reference Folder #146. This is a microfiche collection of 51 rare works published from 1788 to 1826, concerning Voltaire. It is a very selective collection which contains biographies, collections of letters, studies of his works, and stories and plays featuring Voltaire.
