The Middle East Microform Project (MEMP) preserves on microform unique, hard to obtain, and often expensive research material for Middle East studies. MEMP recently microfilmed five Iraqi newspapers published since 2003 (the dates in parentheses indicate the time periods of the microfilmed issues):
- Al-Bayyinah al-jadidah (Nov. 2005–Nov. 2006)
- Al-Da’wah (Oct. 2004–Aug. 2009)
- Al-Fat’h al-Mubin (Apr. 2005–Aug. 2006)
- Al-Huda (Sept. 2005–Aug. 2006)
- Al-Zaman (Oct. 2004–Aug. 2009)
Al-Da’wah is a major Baghdad newspaper published three times a week by the al-Da’wah Party (the party of the current Prime Minister of Iraq, Nouri al-Maliki).
The independent daily newspaper Al-Zaman is published in London and provides news and analysis of the political process unfolding in Iraq. MEMP has microfilmed 28 reels of this title.
Shi’ite political and religious groups in Iraq published three of the titles: Al-Fat’h al-Mubin, Al-Bayyinah al-jadidah, and Al-Huda.
The holdings for all five titles were contributed by the University of California, Berkeley; some were supplemented by holdings from Harvard University.
