CRL announces the release of World Newspaper Archive–Latin American Newspapers, Series 2. This new module will provide more than 1.2 million fully searchable pages of newspapers published in Central and South America, Mexico and the Caribbean from the 19th and early 20th centuries. WNA LAN II currently has more than 185,000 pages accessible, including notable titles such as Critica (Argentina), Diario (Bolivia), Diario de la Marina (Cuba), and Universal (Venezuela). Additional content will be made accessible on a rolling basis.
Nearly 40 Charter Participants invested in launching WNA LAN II. Other CRL member institutions can elect to purchase through CRL with preferred pricing, as in previous modules.
Content was recommended by WNA Charter Participants, faculty members, and subject experts in the field of Latin American Studies. Titles selected closely complement LAN I content, deepening the coverage of important countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, and Mexico; and extending the reach of WNA into countries such as Bolivia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Belize. A provisional title list is available on CRL's website. Combined, these two collections will provide unparalleled coverage of events of the 19th and early 20th centuries in Latin America.
LAN II content will be cross-searchable with LAN I and other modules of the World Newspaper Archive, as well as with other Readex products such as America’s Historical Newspapers.
Latin American Newspapers, Series 2 is the fourth collection module of the World Newspaper Archive, created in partnership with Readex, a division of NewsBank. Members may elect to purchase previous WNA modules through CRL at any time, at highly advantageous rates. For more information on available modules and terms of access, visit the WNA Project page or contact us at wna@crl.edu.
