Access is now available to the pre-launch edition of American Periodicals from the Center for Research Libraries. ProQuest has arranged for a special product preview for CRL members.

The June 2009 official release will contain 450,000 of the three million total pages ultimately planned for the full-color, full-text online resource. As of early May, over 40 titles totaling 280,000 pages have been loaded in the database.

What’s Included

This digitized collection of historic periodicals from CRL, developed in collaboration with ProQuest, will contain American special interest and general magazines, labor and trade publications, scientific and literary journals, and photographic periodicals, as well as other historically significant titles spanning the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Providing electronic access will help protect the originals from harm or loss. CRL has posted a full selection list. Very little of the content overlaps with titles available elsewhere online.

Pricing and access for CRL members

CRL members will receive a discount when they purchase the digital collection, and customers licensing American Periodical Series Online also qualify for special pricing.

For CRL libraries electing not to acquire American Periodicals from the Center for Research Libraries, all of the journals digitized will be available, on a volume-by-volume basis in digital form to fulfill interlibrary loan requests.
