The Slavic and East European Materials Project (SEEMP) has digitized issues of the Ukrainian Catholic newspaper Ameryka, published in Philadelphia by the Providence Association of Ukrainian Catholics in America. Newspaper issues from 1919, 1922, 1925-1929 are included in this open access digitization project. The text is primarily in Ukrainian, but some of the content and advertisements are in English.
The Providence Association of Ukrainian Catholics in America, a fraternal benefit and insurance association founded by Bishop S. Ortynsky to provide moral support and material aid to Ukrainian immigrants, began publication of Ameryka in 1912. Beginning in 1918, Ameryka was published three times per week, and later it was published daily. Circulation peaked at around 12,000 readers in the 1950s through the 1970s. Publication of Ameryka ceased in 1998.
