Manager, Print Services

Summary

The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) seeks a Print Services Manager. This position coordinates preservation activities of a unique non-archival closed collection including print extensive microformat holdings, while ensuring access for a global user base through on-demand scanning, physical lending, and occasional site visitors.

As Print Services Manager, you will be responsible for oversight of CRL’s physical collection and related facility areas. In this role, you will maintain the collection and its environment and ensure materials are properly stored, accessible, and preserved for current and future generations of researchers. As a manager, you will interview, hire, train, and develop your team, growing as a professional and as a leader.

Based in Chicago, IL, the Center for Research Libraries is an international consortium of university, college, and independent research libraries and an enduring model for cooperative collection development and community building among the research library community. From its original founding in 1949 by ten member libraries in the Midwestern United States, today CRL represents an international consortium of university, college, and independent research libraries collectively building, stewarding, and sharing a wealth of resource materials from all world regions to support inspired research and teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and serve collections to CRL patrons
  • Assess and act on collection threats and risks
  • Monitor collections for environmental issues and preservation needs
  • Implement environmental standards and best practices for the preservation of CRL collections
  • Provide CRL staff with insights and statistics on the use, description, and condition of collections
  • Supervise and train Print Services staff to retrieve, shelve and care for the collection
  • Oversee preparation of new and existing collection content for long term storage
  • Write and maintain documentation and procedures
  • Plan and budget for collection projects
  • Work with other CRL staff to identify and replace lost, damaged, or missing materials
  • Update location and holdings information in the catalog
  • Work with CRL Staff to fulfill Interlibrary Loan requests and projects
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience as a library collections or offsite storage manager.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, oversee, and direct staff to achieve tasks.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, permanent position with an expected starting salary of $50,000-$55,000. CRL offers competitive benefits including health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, and flexible PTO including vacation, sick, personal time, 2 floating and 12 paid holidays per year. In addition, CRL offers generous retirement benefits with a monthly 10% contribution after a year of employment (immediately vested). Employees will receive funding for professional development activities. Flexible and remote work options possible with management approval.
