CRL holds a collection of material filmed from the Österreichisches Staatsarchiv (Austrian State Archives) concerning foreign relations between Austria and other states. Contents include diplomatic reports, instructions, and varia. Material is organized chronologically, though sections also include special thematic folders (such as Prussian affairs in West Africa, the Anglo-Portuguese conflict of 1889–91, or Russian-Ukrainian affairs in 1918). CRL’s holdings include the following sets:
The Allied Commission for Austria represented the governments of the United States, United Kingdom, France, and the Soviet Union, which occupied Austria during the years 1945–55. The Allied Council (ALCO) consisted of the four Commanders in Chief of the Allied Forces in Austria. The Executive Committee (EXCO) included deputies to the Commanders in Chief, and the meetings concerned administrative and economic problems in Austria, such as food rationing, political activities of democratic parties, freedom of the press, trade unions, transportation, confiscation of Nazi property, and the encouragement of light industry. Other items discussed are the regulation of Austrian aviation; plans for food production and supplies; communications; denazification; fuel supplies; electrical power; price, wage, and production controls; and the extradition of war criminals. This set includes the agendas, minutes, papers, Allied Secretariat memoranda, annexes, and U.S. unofficial minutes. The guide provides subject access.
